TO THE BIBLE
Philippians 1:27 (NLT)
“Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ….“
LET’S TALK
Amy twirled in front of the mirror, admiring her trendy crop top and ripped jeans. “Mum, isn’t this cute? Everyone’s wearing this!”
Her mum shook her head. “Amy, it’s not about trends. As a child of God, you represent Him. This outfit doesn’t reflect modesty.”
The Bible gives us insight into how God thinks and what He values. Take, for example, His instructions to the Israelites about building an altar. He told them not to use steps to climb up so that no one watching from below would see their nakedness (Exodus 20:26 MSG).
When we choose modesty, we set a positive example for others and show that our identity is rooted in Christ, not in society’s expectations. Our opening scripture reminds us that we must live as citizens of heaven, conducting ourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel. This means we live differently because we belong to God. There are things we choose not to do, places we choose not to go, and words we choose not to speak because we represent Christ.
So, be different; you’re a child of the Kingdom with a different life. You were sanctified by the Spirit. Therefore, let everything about your life glorify Christ.
GO DEEPER
Romans 12:1-2
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
1 Timothy 2:9-10 NIV
I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, 10 but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.
Exodus 20:26 NIV
And do not go up to my altar on steps, or your private parts may be exposed.’
1 Peter 3:3-4 NIV
Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. 4 Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.
PRAY
Dear Father, thank you for your Word, which guides me in all aspects of life. I uphold the values of our Kingdom in all that I do, expressing righteousness and reflecting the character of Christ in my daily life. I stand firm in my commitment to honouring you. I embody and practice the principles, values and teachings of the Word by your Spirit and live according to your will, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
