TO THE BIBLE
Psalm 37:4
“Delight yourself also in the Lord, and he shall give you the desires of your heart.”

LET’S TALK
To delight yourself in the Lord means to be excited about God. It means taking joy in serving Him and doing what pleases Him. That was David; he said, “I was glad when they said to me, ‘Let us go into the house of the Lord'” (Psalm 122:1). He loved being in God’s presence and pleased God so much that God called him a “…man after my own heart” (Acts 13:22).

To be “excited” means “to be stirred by strong emotion.” This means when you think about God, your heart lights up, like when your favourite song plays or you nail something you worked hard on. You want to do anything to make Him happy! That’s delighting yourself in the Lord.

The Bible says, “Then you shall delight yourself in the Lord; and I will cause you to ride on the high hills of the earth…” (Isaiah 58:14). Those who delight in God experience life differently, like playing on easy mode while the rest of the world struggles. Every day feels vibrant, full of purpose, and even the miraculous.

Those who aren’t excited about Him, even if saved, often have a dull experience of life. But when you delight yourself in the Lord, the Bible says, “…He shall give you the desires of your heart.” God places good desires in your heart and fulfils them, so your prayers focus more on others and worship than just asking for yourself.

Get excited about God and all that matters to Him, and watch your life overflow with His goodness and miracles!

GO DEEPER
Psalm 1:1-3
“[1] Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. [2] But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in his law doth he meditate day and night. [3] And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”

Psalm 40:8
“I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.”

Psalm 119:16
“I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.”

PRAY
Dear Father, my heart is full of love and tender appreciation of you. I love you, and I’m excited to express that love every day of my life. My desire is to bring honour and glory to your Name, and I’m empowered to fulfil your purpose, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
